The Overnight

Six girls
        wade and clamber
past poison oak
        rocking logs
across the creek
        echoes laughter.

They squat on rocks
        settle on gospel –
haunting, undulating notes
        rise and fall.

It’s a
        pizza
chatter
        make-up
play
        overnight.

Trampoline
        voices spin
and somersault
        startling
suspended sunset.

Gleeful rolling
        down sand-hills
hurtling wings
        roaring waves.

Dune grass dew
        billowing softly as hair
reminds me
        of dearest you
shelter to
        such a gracile flower.
